The Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) is a non-profit R&D corporation founded in 1998 by Natural Resources Canada, Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources, the University of Regina and the Saskatchewan Research Council. The PTRC uses R&D to advance and support the recovery of Canada’s rich but often difficult to access oil resources. The PTRC is committed to conducting research that will help the petroleum industry implement sustainable technologies that minimize environmental impacts, such as climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions, while maximizing oil recovery. Many of the PTRC’s projects also hold potential for minimizing water use and reducing land impacts of oil recovery.

Products and services include managing the world's largest CO2 Storage Project (IEA GHG Weyburn-Midale CO2 Monitoring and Storage Project), and potentially the world's largest avoided CO2 emissions project (JIVE Project), advancing enhanced oil recovery technologies through a newly established Business-Led Network of Centres of Excellence (Sustainable Technologies for Energy Production Systems, or STEPS), managing western Canada’s first integrated CO2 capture, transportation, injection and storage project involving the injection of CO2 into a deep saline formation (Aquistore), and directing research in an investigation of fluids and their locations in the Saskatchewan subsurface (Saskatchewan Phanerozoic Fluids and Petroleum Systems).
