Trade Mission: Finland & Sweden – Mining

Finland produces cobalt, nickel, copper, talc, chromium, mica, peat, phosphate, selenium, sulfur, and small amounts of uranium as a byproduct. Sweden mines iron ore, lead, peat, selenium and zinc. They have recently moved towards lifting their uranium mining ban.

The Fennoscandian Exploration and Mining Conference (FEM) is the most important mining event in Northern Europe and is one of the larger mining events on the continent. The biennial conference is well attended by Agnico Eagle, Boliden, Anglo American and other key companies in the region. It has an exploration focus but also covers all aspects of mining. The always sold-out event is confined to the Levi Ski Resort, so attendees have many opportunities to meet.

Delegates will arrive in Finland during the weekend of October 25th and 26th. Most of the programming in Finland will be in Lapland. If booth space is available, STEP members can exhibit at the FEM tradeshow, October 28th – 30th. The Sweden programming will take place on November 3rd to 5th, with most of it being in Northern Sweden. This will include B2B events, networking events and possibly a mine tour or meetings with mining producers.
