Regina, Saskatchewan — Chris Lane Appointed President & CEO of Saskatchewan Trade & Export Partnership

Mr. Marlin Stangeland, Chair of the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) Board of Directors, announced today the appointment of Mr. Chris Lane as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of STEP, effective September 8, 2025.

Mr. Lane’s appointment follows Mr. Chris Dekker’s retirement from STEP in April 2025. The Board of Directors extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Dekker for his leadership and contributions to the organization over the past 10 years.

“We are very pleased to welcome Chris Lane as the new leader of STEP,” said Mr. Stangeland. “Chris brings with him a wealth of leadership experience and a deep understanding of economic development. The Board of Directors is confident that Chris’s dynamic vision and collaborative approach will further elevate STEP’s role in supporting Saskatchewan’s export community and driving continued success across our province.”

Most recently, Mr. Lane served as President and CEO of Economic Development Regina (EDR), where he led impactful initiatives that enhanced regional prosperity and strategic partnerships. Prior to his tenure at EDR, he served as the CEO of Canadian Western Agribition, where his emphasis on international market development resulted in a tenfold increase in international sales over a five-year period.

Mr. Lane holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communication from the University of Regina and has earned his ICD.D designation through the Institute of Corporate Directors, underscoring his commitment to strong governance and thoughtful leadership.

“STEP plays a vital role in advancing Saskatchewan’s economic interests globally as we welcome Chris Lane’s leadership at this important time,” said the Honourable Warren Kaeding, Minister, Saskatchewan Trade and Export Development.

“I’m honoured to join STEP and work alongside our members and partners to grow Saskatchewan’s presence in global markets,” said Chris Lane. “Together, we will build on the strong foundation already in place and pursue new opportunities for the province’s exporters.”
