X-Steam-inator Agriculture Products (XAP) located at Chaplin, Saskatchewan has developed the X-Steam-inator, a sprayer that uses high temperature steam for non-selective weed control. The company's patented process generates high temperature steam in an energy efficient manner with the ability to precisely control steam temperature, pressure and saturation. XAP has a memorandum of understanding with Honey Bee Manufacturing to build the units. Pre-seed weed control and weed control between crop rows are the first applications being targeted. The technology will have applications for agriculture worldwide.

XPT Grain Inc. is a Saskatchewan based special crops exporter. The company purchases and delivers Western Canadian produced grain to domestic and export markets, mainly China. The grains handled are all types of conventional and organic peas, flax, beans and lentils. XPT Grain has established relationships with growers and processors, providing another market outlet and source of information for Saskatchewan farmers.

Main industries in the area include agriculture, potash mining, manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, tourism and health services. Yorkton is the largest city on the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 16) between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The trading area around Yorkton encompasses east central Saskatchewan and western Manitoba with a population of 150,000 making it the third largest trading area in the province.
